The last few months have been a sad time in country music, as four notable country musicians have died, including Betty Amos, Marty Robbins, and Daryle Singletary. We honor all of these great artists by listing their passing dates here. It can be hard to decide where to start. Let's begin with the most famous 2018 death dates.

Daryle Singletary

The country music community lost a beloved singer-songwriter on February 12. Daryle Singletary (46), died from unknown causes. Singletary was a respected artist who adhered to tradition and was beloved by all. His death was unexpected as he was not known for having any chronic illnesses. In fact, his final show was set for Saturday. There are no signs that he was in any way ill. Fans are still processing the news, while paying tribute to the country legend.

Sudie Callaway

In addition to her many hits, Sudie Callaway was a stalwart of Nashville's Music Row, performing on hundreds of hit country records as a background singer. Dolly Parton (George Strait), Mel Tillis (Mel Tillis), Marty Robbins (among many others) were some of her performances. Sudie Callaway, a Kentucky native, was born in Twila at six years old. She was a well-respected singer, and she also played the bass for several of her bandmates. She eventually began recording solo singles for independent labels.

Betty Amos

It is hard to believe that there are so many Betty Amos songs that have been lost this year. However, we will all be affected by their loss. Her death is tragic, even though her work is highly regarded. She is survived her husband, Rachel and Cheri and Madison, one of her daughters. Concepcion & Carlos, her parents, as well two brothers Ed & Victor are all gone.

Phil Ledbetter

Phil Leadbetter, an acclaimed resonator guitarist, passed away suddenly last week at the age of 52. He was born in Knoxville. At the age of twelve, he started playing the instrument and graduated from Gibbs High School. He was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in April 2011. This is a form of cancer that affects the lymph nodes. Leadbetter fought the disease five more times and was a five-time Hodgkins Lymphoma survivor. During clinical trials, Opdivo was given to Leadbetter for the fifth time.

Jimmy Capps

The list of deceased country music legends continues with Jimmy Capps. His smooth tone was what made this country guitarist a legend. His music has been featured on many hits including those by Ray Price, Charlie Rich and Eddy Arnold. Capps was an integral part of North Carolina's music scene. Fans around the world have mourned his death in 2018.


Steve Coy

Steve Coy, drummer and keyboardist of the Dead Or Alive, died this weekend. Coy's death marks the second time Coy has died in the past two year. In fact, last year the band also lost Pete Burns to heart attacks. In fact, Coy was the longest serving member of the band after Burns. His special place in the Dead Or Alive clan is not easily explained.

Janka Nabay

Janka Nabay of Sierra Leone was among the country music musicians who died in 2018. Janka Nabay was born in Africa and grew up in the USA before returning to Sierra Leone last year. He was a traditional musician, who specialized on Temne and bamboo flutes. He was known by the name of King Bubu Music. He combined traditional Temne music, with electronic instrumentation.

C.W. Vrtacek

This year, there have been many amazing moments in country music. Although there was an abundance of great music, there were several sad moments. These included the deaths two highly respected musicians. "WAR" author C.W. Vrtacek as well as Daryle Singletary, country singer/songwriter, were among those who lost their battle this year. Singletary was 46 years old when he died. His wife and children are his survivors.

Hardy Fox

Hardy Fox, cofounder and chief composer of the Residents, died recently. The group was founded in 1969 and operated for the majority of its existence under strict secrecy. Hardy Fox was only able to reveal his true identity, and that he was in fact a founding member. The Residents' music has become synonymous with theatrical live shows and top hats and eyeball helmets.

Stan Lee

Fans are facing a difficult time due to the recent deaths of Jimmy Carter and Stan Lee, two of the most beloved comic book creators in the world. Both died unexpectedly in Los Angeles at the age of 76. Stan Lee was a longtime collaborator with Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, who contributed to the creation of such iconic comic book characters as Hulk, Iron Man, and Thor. Lee also created unique characters like the Fantastic Four or Black Panther.
